Nadrin and his Mother
In this first entry of many in the new "Outreach Stories" series we have a story about a boy named Nadrin and his mother. This Story takes place deep in a Himalayan mountain village. Our team had just left a small city 6 days before our encounter with Nadrin. The story below is gonna explain how God worked in not only Nadrin and his mother's life but also mine.
Some of our team praying for Nadrin
Story
We were 6 days into a slow but powerful and much needed restful transition from a low outer mountain city to a new higher elevated village. The snow had just about all melted since the time it fell on the first two days of being here. Micah, Devin, and I had just taken a seat inside the wood stove heated living room the size of a small western bedroom. We planned on relaxing from the noon hours into the evening accompanied by a cup of coffee and some reading when we were then interrupted. At first it was a rather regular occurrence that of which was Emma, our team leader asking us to meet on the roof for team time. We set our books down and let the coffee sit on the stove not expecting at all what would come next. On our way up the outdoor spiral staircase to the roof, Nabin, our native translator and guide who was on the ground asked if the team could come down to him. He was joined with the pastor who was hosting our team (it was his house) and a lady with her son. Nabin said the son is very sick and he and his mother walked for two days to come to us and receive prayer. I instantly felt excitement as I changed my direction from walking up the stairs to down them. I was ready to pray and see God move-So often hitherto we had approached hurting or injured people and asked if they wanted prayer for healing and we would usually never see miracles because it seemed as if they did not really even want to be healed nor had the slightest faith that they would be. (I have faith that many of those that we prayed for did receive healing or a heavenly encounter but possibly after we had departed. God often heals and moves moments or days after prayer) Our team of 9 plus our translator Nabin, the pastor and some other members of his family gathered around a quiet hoodie covered boy and desperate mother as she shared his story. We then split up so that we would not overwhelm the boy. Some of the team stayed to pray with the boy while the rest prayed from the house. Nabin translated every couple sentences what the mother was telling him and informed us on the boys name which was Nadrin and he was 22 years old. He then told us she said when Nadrin was in 10th grade there was a random shift in his character. She said he became lifeless, started running away, would hardly speak, and would randomly have seizures. Then Nabin told us how the mother went to a witch doctor to find answers and get him healed but while Nadrin was there he started having a seizure and to get the him to stop the witch doctor hit him and knocked out his two bottom teeth. We did not know where to start but we all knew the power of prayer so we started praying with Nadrin. He showed no expressions and had no life in his eyes.
I sat on the cold frozen ground with toes I could no longer feel, gazing at a hurt boy as his empty stare saw straight through Emma who was directly in front of him. Though it hurt to see someone in such numbness and suppressed emotions I think what hit deepest is when I looked at his mother who was sitting on the opposite side of me. Her eyes and body language held more words than a thousand books. I observed her as she gazed upon her son in such compassion and confusion. She had walked 2 days in search of seeing her son return to the joyful and loving kid he once was. We learned that she had just given her life to Jesus 2 weeks prior. The eyes of the mother may have spoken so loudly to me because of the similarity they had to my own mother's. In a time when I was going through a spiritual battle and was looking so different then my usual self I witnessed my mother go far and broad doing anything to help me. I prayed to myself, "Lord heal this boy, bring him back to the identity you have for him, give this mother peace and let her see her son return to the boy he once was". We then all started praying together as a group and that is when Emma got a word from the Lord. She told us that she felt Nadrin had been raped by a Hindu priest when he was in 10th grade. She wanted us to pray and ask God if this was correct or if she made up the thought herself. We all prayed and a couple did not hear anything but the rest of us heard yes, it was true. Emma then told Nabin and he translated and asked Nadrin if this had happened. He said it had. We started rebuking any lies of satan and demonic spirits then we replaced them by praying original design over him. Original design is the unique identity that Christ has for each and every single person. Satan is constantly trying to lie to us about our identity and make us believe we are not who God created us to be and satan was doing this big time to Nadrin. Nabin started telling Nadrin that God calls him a son and that he does not need to feel shame or guilt for what happened. We then started telling Nabin to translate to Nadrin that it is important that he forgives the priest who raped him. Forgiveness is so important and it is the first step of moving on. Unforgivness keeps the one who did you wrong in control, and so it was so crucial that Nadrin forgave his wrongdoer. Though it may be painful to forgive, it is much more painful to live with the weight of unforgiveness, so we started walking him through prayers of forgiveness.
It had been around 3 hours since we met Nadrin and his mother and we were really starting to see ground gained in the spiritual realm, but it was not over. Though we had rebuked and replaced, Nadrin still showed signs of being heavily oppressed and still had that lifeless look in his eyes. We asked his mother if she had known of anything else that had happened to her son. She told us Nadrin's brother was a witch doctor and had put a curse on him. I felt deeply that this boy has a powerful future ahead of him whatever that may look like and the devil was constantly using people and other things as obstacles to keep him from living out the life God has in store for him. We started praying against any curses placed on Nadrin by his brother. Paul writes in Colossians that when Jesus was nailed to the cross "He Disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them". Because of this we do not need to be fearful of curses or demonic spirits. When Jesus ascended into heaven he said that it is better that he goes because when he goes to heaven he will send down his Spirit-the Holy Spirit and through his Spirit, if we choose to accept it, we gain all authority that Jesus had when he walked the earth. With this in mind we start casting out any and every demonic spirits and curses placed upon Nadrin. Emma then has a vision and it was of a black owl above Nadrins head representing the curse from his brother. She then said in the vision there were white doves flying in and they were overtaking the darkness and turning the black owl white. Emma said the white doves represented our prayers and as we kept praying the owl got whiter and whiter but then it came to a halt. We all started praying and waited to hear what God wanted us to do next. That is when I felt we should have the mother pray for her son. She had just given her life to God two weeks prior and I felt God wanted to show her the authority she holds. I also wanted to see her receive the victory for her sons freedom because she had done so much for him. We taught her how to pray, which was basically just saying it does not matter what you say because God looks at your heart. When the mother said amen we all felt a release and felt Nadrin had received full freedom through the power of Christ. It was nothing any one of us had said or done, it was only by the power of God and because of our obedience we got to partner with God in performing a maricle and freeing a young boy from spiritual torment, unforegivness, a curse, and other lies from the enemy.
Follow Up
After 4 hours of prayer and a miracle we invited Nadrin and his mother inside for supper. During the meal Nadrin already started looking more full of life. The family we stayed with invited him to stay for the night and then prayed for him and blessed him. the next day our team left early to go on a trek to another village. we came back late the next day and Nadrin and his mother were still at their house. It was so cool to see the family pouring out into him and speaking life into him. They were encouraging him and did not want to just leave him with a 4 hour prayer but also a relationship and a foundation based on the truth of scripture. Nadrin looked like a whole new person. He would greet us and smile and laugh. He ended up staying at this families house with us for a week and everytime I saw him he was reading the Bible. It was so beautiful to see the healing power of God transform someone in such a short time. I felt encouraged by the family who brought these strangers into their house to ensure they were both built up in Christ and could grow a relationship with other believers. They did not just do the bare minimum but instead went above and beyond and served Nadrin and his mother while also serving our team. I pray to be this intentional and obedient with the people God puts in my life.
